Rand Paul in TSA showdown after refusing pat down – By Stephanie Condon – January 23, 2012 10:48 AM

In Abuse of Power, Democracy, Invasive Laws, Technology, USA on January 23, 2012 at 9:34 pm

Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky on Monday found himself in a showdown with the Transportation Security Administration in Nashville, Tennessee after refusing to undergo a full-body pat down. Paul was later re-screened and booked on a subsequent flight.

The senator went through the scanner at the airport but was told there was some sort of “anomaly” with the scan and would have to get a full-body pat down, Paul’s chief of staff Doug Stafford told CBS News. Paul did not consent to this and offered another scan, but the TSA insisted on the pat down.

According to the Associated Press, Paul said he was “detained” in a small cubicle in the airport, which is about an hour from his Bowling Green, Kentucky home, and missed his flight to Washington for a Senate session.

The TSA disputed the characterization that Paul was “detained.” The TSA told CBS News that Paul wasn’t detained at any point, though he triggered an alarm during a routine screening and refused to complete the screening process.

Passengers who refuse to comply with security procedures are denied access to the secure gate area. In this case, Paul was escorted out of the screening area by local law enforcement, according to the TSA.

“When an irregularity is found during the TSA screening process, it must be resolved prior to allowing a passenger to proceed to the secure area of the airport,” the TSA said in a statement to CBS News. “Passengers who refuse to complete the screening process cannot be granted access to the secure area in order to ensure the safety of others traveling.”

Paul’s father, Republican presidential candidate and Texas Rep. Ron Paul, quickly tweeted about the incident Monday morning: “My son @SenRandPaul being detained by TSA for refusing full body pat-down after anomaly in body scanner in Nashville. More details coming.”

Ron Paul left a similar message on Facebook, and Rand Paul’s communications director Moira Bagley also tweeted the news.

Around midday, a TSA official told CBS News that Rand Paul was re-booked on another flight and re-screened without incident.

Both Rand Paul and Ron Paul are known for their libertarian policy positions, and last year, Rand Paul blasted the TSA for conducting unnecessary pat downs.

In a June 2011 hearing, Paul told TSA administrator John Pistole, “I think you ought to get rid of the random pat-downs. The American public is unhappy with them, they’re unhappy with the invasiveness of them.”

After reports surfaced of young children getting intense, random pat-downs, Paul said in the hearing, “It just really just shows that no one is thinking… We need to be doing better police work and doing less of the universal giving up of our freedom to live our life the way we would like to live our life.”

He suggested there should be a “trusted traveler” program in which people who travel frequently and are known to be not a threat, like congressmen, don’t have to be searched.

Monday afternoon, Ron Paul released a statement decrying the dispute, noting that as president, he would eliminate the TSA.

“The police state in this country is growing out of control,” he said. “One of the ultimate embodiments of this is the TSA that gropes and grabs our children, our seniors, and our loved ones and neighbors with disabilities. The TSA does all of this while doing nothing to keep us safe.”

‘Paul was later re-screened and booked on a subsequent flight.’

A capitulation of sorts! Re-screened? Paul should have challenged the TSA legislation at Congress on the basis of ciy to city or congressional district to congressional district removal of TSA from local airports and congressional districts, demanding to be let through under some obscure bureaucrat law – some plutocrat congressman should be doing this by putting lawsuits on all TSA guys (TSA guys how about earning your money in a different manner by quitting and joining a less controversial and more useful government department – you’re becoming the face of American failure and security excesses and the ‘American face of hate’ more than or at least as much as Muslim Terrorism already is) to kick up a fuss instead of allowing oneself to be screened and getting on another flight.

Remember voters, plutocrat mayors, congressmen or gubernatorial and senatorial politicians level have allowed this – with sad to say President Obama for all the good he might be doing elsewhere, tacitly approving by not making a sound on TSA either. Those who want to keep TSA would doubtless make their districts a$$hole districts where people would give a miss, much like the Internet Kill Switch States (Rand, your dad Ron needs to drop this one . . . ) or the pro-Fiat/Anti-Gold States, etc..

Snoop Dog should have done the stronger version of this for all the organics smokers in his own court case. Though the sum was small, Snoop chose the lazy way out and paid the fine rather than pull an MLK on the legislation as Rand Oaul is pulling half an MLK  (i.e. half a$$ed attempt) on the TSA here. Come on Snoop, maybe you could try to demand that fine you paid back and still pull an MLK to legalise organics drugs the way Nethelands has. Show Rand Paul how it’s done. Surely you can’t be satisfied with making cash from music alone. YOu want to look back and say, I, Snoop Dog MADE legislation of pot possible, got the avalanch started, and freed so many suffering souls from prison or fear of growing their own patch. Why don’t you do it Snoop? On the back of Rand Pauls trail blazing on TSA . . . or one day you will look back and regret it and struggle like mad to reclaim what was almost lost when one was directly relevant and having an immediate reason to. This will set you apart from all other rappers who do smoke pot but lack the courage to do this even though they do have the money! USA is the ‘Fisr World’ now show the rest of the world how the organics issue and by extension all other issue should be treated.

Last orders for late licences? One in four pubs to stop opening after midnight – By James Slack, Home Affairs Editor Last updated at 11:23 PM on 18th January 2012

More than 10,000 late-opening pubs and bars will revert to traditional closing times as part of a crackdown on 24-hour drinking.

Reforms are being introduced to unpick the damage caused by Labour’s licensing laws.

In a victory for the Mail’s ‘Say No to 24-hour Drinking’ campaign, there will be a blanket ban on late opening in trouble spots.

Turning back the clock: Reforms are being introduced in an attempt to reduce the drunkenness and violence caused by Labour’s 24-hour licensing laws

Extra police – paid for by pubs and bars – will be placed on the streets late at night. Details of the changes emerged in papers published by the Government yesterday.

They reveal that, under a ‘late night levy’ scheme, councils will be able to charge late-opening bars and pubs a fee of up to £4,440 a year, although the average bill is expected to be around £800.

According to the Home Office, which has consulted landlords across the country, one in four pubs which currently open late will decide it is not worth it to continue. Instead, they will return to closing before midnight.

Currently, around 42,000 pubs and bars open late. Officials say that, in the average council area, more than 60 venues will stop.

All the cash raised by the levy will be shared 70:30 between police and town halls.

The money, worth an estimated £13.5million nationwide, can only be used for tackling the mayhem caused by late drinking.
Money to tackle mayhem: Cash generated from levies charged to late-drinking establishments will be used to fund ‘booze buses’ like the one above which are used to look after drunks

Money to tackle mayhem: Cash generated from levies charged to late-drinking establishments will be used to fund ‘booze buses’ like the one above which are used to look after drunks

Police, who say late licences have stretched them to breaking point, will be expected to spend the money on putting more police on the beat.

It’s estimated that, in each area, the cash will pay for an extra 4,000 hours of police constable time.

Town halls will be instructed to spend the money on taxi marshals to help drunks get home safely, street cleaners and ‘booze buses’.

The buses, used in London’s West End, carry paramedics who can look after people who are injured or have drunk too much alcohol.

Separately, ministers are also  giving councils a new power titled Early Morning Restriction Orders. These will allow a blanket ban on any premises opening between midnight and 6am in trouble spots.
How the Mail campaigned to reverse the 24-hour drinking laws

Lord Henley said: ‘Where there is a vibrant late night economy, with premises remaining open into the early hours, then the local authority should have the flexibility to charge for a contribution towards any additional policing that this generates.

‘Taxpayers should not simply be left to pick up this cost.’

The Home Office said it was responding to public concern about the problems caused by Labour’s 2003 Licensing Act.

Officials said: ‘Many residents informed us that the night-time economy makes certain parts of the town no-go areas and anti-social behaviour associated with late-night drinking extends into residential communities not just around licensed premises.’

The new rules will contain exceptions for small rural pubs. Ministers say they do not want to drive them out of business.

A year ago, it emerged that an explosion in late-opening supermarkets and bars has left Britain with the largest number of premises licensed to sell alcohol for 100 years.

There are an estimated 166,000 venues with permission to sell drink – many of them open long beyond the traditional closing time of 11pm.

Police have blamed late-opening bars, corner shops and supermarkets for the rowdy behaviour and violence blighting the nation’s streets.

At the same time, there are around 30 traditional pubs closing every week. Critics said Labour’s 24-hour drinking laws – which were supposed to introduce a continental-style ‘cafe culture’ – sounded the death-knell for the traditional British pub.

Kate Nicholls, of the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers, said: ‘The Government claims these measures will deal with the “problems of late-night drinking”.

‘However, until the issue of supermarkets selling alcohol at pocket-money prices is addressed, these problems will not be fully resolved.’

Labour introduced round-the-clock opening in the face of overwhelming opposition from doctors, the police and judges.

At the time, ministers insisted the number of premises staying open late into the night would be limited.

This is not the Government closing pubs early, or limiting the issue of late night licensees it is the government sticking yet another tax on already pressed businesses, moving the cost of policing on to the landlords. It is correct that establishments should be held responsible for their clientele and should contribute. Most people here are reading this as a limit of opening times, well spun DM, and great to notice most of your readers are too stupid to see past your headline. Tory government tackling a major social problem the wrong way again, spin spin and more spin, get a grip.

Good move! This should slash our policing costs! Instead of police dealing with drugs crime, theft and burglary, there are van loads of therm all over the country simply to deal with drunks in town centres. All totally predictable! I still have not worked out the power of the lobby for extending hours- there seem few advantages to the hours extensions, and a lot of people made a fortune from it!

One in four isn’t enough. It should three out of four that go back to the traditional licensing times, when pubs closed at 10:30 PM during the week not until midnight. That way thousands of working hours will be saved through less people pulling “sickies” because of hangovers.

First stop, supermarket, cheaper to get tanked up before you go out. Second, happy hour at the local pub so you can top up and save a few quid for the entry fee for the third stop, club. At the club you’re so smashed you don’t care how much the booze costs. Stumble out of there into the nearest ambulance for the last stop, A & E. Solution? I don’t know. What I do know is that every drunken twerp carted off to A & E for drink related problems should be charged for the ambulance ride and for the services provided by the NHS to sober them up. Anyone caught by the police for being gobby, aggressive or just a nuisance whilst drunk should he HEAVILY fined. These idiots need to understand that there will be consequences to their actions.

Whatever happened to “Drunk and Disorderly”? Start taking their cash from them. Take them home and bang on the door until the whole family and neighbours are wide awake in the middle of the night. Humiliate them. If parking fines can be given on the spot, why not the drunks? Another part of New Labour’s legacy. Typically, too arrogant to listen and act on the concerns of the people they saddled us with pubs in decline, drinking clubs ruining our town and city centres, supermarkets swamping us with cheap loss leader booze, many young people following the trend of getting wrecked at weekends and a major health problem. So much for the cafe culture!

Argentina’s acting president angrily tells Cameron to go back to school and stop being so ‘ignorant’ over the Falklands Britain’s comments ‘clumsy and historically misinformed’ By Gerrard Couzens Last updated at 6:57 PM on 19th January 2012

Stinging retort: Argentine Vice-President Amado Boudou said Cameron’s comment were clumsy and historically inaccurate

Argentina’s acting president labelled David Cameron ‘ignorant’ and suggested he go back to school today in an astonishing attack over the Falklands.

Amado Boudou, who is standing in for Christina Kirchner while she recovers from a throat operation, led a verbal assault on Mr Cameron after he accused Argentina of acting like colonialists over the disputed islands.

Mr Cameron had also reiterated in parliament that the province would remain British so long as the residents wished to.

Boudou, a former DJ who became the country’s vice-president after elections last year, raged: ‘It’s very sad to hear this fallacy.

‘We believe it’s a clumsy, historically-misinformed and inappropriate thing to say.

‘We’re astonished by such ignorance. Maybe he should re-read his history books to understand what colonialism is.’

And as the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War nears, Interior Minister Florencio Randazzo went even further, saying: ‘It’s totally offensive, above all coming from Britain.

‘History clearly shows what its attitude to the world has been.

Prime Minister David Cameron, pictured here making a speech on responsible capitalism in London today, has ruffled feathers in Argentina

And Foreign Affairs Minister Hector Timerman blasted: ‘It’s astonishing that England talks of colonialism when it’s a country which is synonymous with colonialism.

‘Britain in its imperial decadence is trying to rewrite history at a time when only a few traces of colonialism remain.’

The fierce reaction to Mr Cameron’s Commons statement on the Falklands had outspoken President Cristina Kirchner’s handprints all over it.

She was said to have ordered the carefully-orchestrated response as she recovered from an operation to remove her thyroid gland after she was wrongly diagnosed with cancer.

Conflict: The Liberation Monument in Port Stanley. More than 900 people were killed after Argentina invaded the Falklands in 1982

Her Twitter page, which she has used in the past to attack Britain over the Falklands, bore no sign of the new war of wards in the escalating tension between the two countries.

But critics and supporters alike added fuel to the fire with language seldom used since the 1982 conflict which claimed the lives of 649 Argentines, 255 Brits and three Falkland Islanders.

Eduardo Amadeo, an MP and Argentina’s former ambassador to the United States called Mr Cameron’s colonialism claim ‘delirious’ and branded him a ‘disciple of Galtieri.’
The Union flag flies over Port Howard, West Falkland in June 1982 for the first time in more than two months – signifying the end of the Falklands conflict

In a reference to the hated Argentine general and former president Leopoldo Galtieri who ordered the 1982 invasion of the Falklands to boost his falling popularity, he added: ‘It’s not surprising that after the news of the increase in unemployment in Britain, Mr Cameron has decided to reignite the Falklands issue in the worst style of Galteiri.’

Rival MP Alberto Assef called Mr Cameron ‘pitiful’, saying: ‘David Cameron represents the most colonialist country in history.
30TH ANNIVERSARY OF CONFLICT LOOMING

Tensions between Argentina and Britain have been building in the run-up to the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War in April.

Argentina recently won the support of powerful regional trading block Mercosur as part of its long-running diplomatic offensive to reclaim the islands.

Neighbours Uruguay and Brazil agreed a pact to close ports to vessels carrying the Falkland Islands flag.

Brazil’s Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota told William Hague the decision stood and his country continued to back Argentina’s claim to the Falklands during a meeting in Brasilia yesterday.

‘The British Prime Minister is either laughing at the entire world or he’s guilty of a gross irony. It’s pitiful.’

Ricardo Alfonsin, a rival to Cristina Kirchner in last October’s general elections in Argentina, added: ‘It’s a shocking thing to say that Argentina is colonialist.’

The reaction came after Mr Cameron dramatically raised the diplomatic stakes during an exchange at Prime Minister’s Questions yesterday.

The PM was warned at a recent security summit devoted to the Falklands’ defence that Argentine fishermen may be sent to plant their national flag on the island as part of a campaign of intimidation by the south American country to mark the 30th anniversary of the invasion.

Mr Cameron told the Commons the islanders could remain British as long as they want, adding: ‘What the Argentinians have been saying recently, I would argue, is far more like colonialism because these people want to remain British and the Argentinians want them to do something else.’

Leading Argentine daily Clarin devoted its first four news pages to the Falklands war of words today.

A lead item on the Mr Cameron speech was headlined: ‘Cameron: In Search of Oxygen to cover up his domestic problems.’

Reader Jose Quevedo wrote at the end of its website article about the rising tension: ‘Let’s go to war and stop being namby-pambies.’

Another, Daniel Alejandro Mamani commented: ‘Don’t forget it’s our island and our fallen heroes are waiting for us there.’

Augustin Molinari wrote: ‘We don’t need professional soldiers.

‘All we need to do is get hold of all the scumbugs living in our slums who are normally stealing, killing and raping and send them to the islands to do something worthwhile and defend our nation.’

It’s the southern hemisphere, FAR FAR away from Europe which England can’t even get along with much less the IRA or the Scots, likely Welsh too, which the English have alienated so much (also a history of colonisation and subjugation where entire Royal Courts were toppled). If England cannot win over people who live so near them, England surely cannot claim what it calls the ‘Falklands’ 1000s of miles away as it’s own. It’s both indefensible politically, and also geographically unreasonable as the islands are effectively in the EEZ of Argentina!

We’re not paying! Welsh-speaking father and daughter refuse to settle £65 parking tickets – because they were issued in ENGLISH – By Charles Walford Last updated at 12:12 PM on 19th January 2012

Two Welsh-speakers are refusing to pay their £65 parking tickets – because they were issued in English.

Noel Jones, 54, and his daughter Bethan, 26, insist the fines handed out by a private firm were ‘not in line with council policy’ and therefore should not be enforced.

All council signs and correspondence in the Welsh-speaking village of Penrhyndeudraeth, on the edge of the Snowdownia National Park, are bilingual.

However, the car park at the village’s Memorial Hall where the pair were fined for parking is privately policed by a London-based firm.

Refusal: Noel Jones with his penalty notice in the Memorial Hall car park, which is privately policed by a London-based firm. He is refusing to pay the ticket as it is in English

Warning signs at the 18-space car park are in English only.

Miss Jones, a carer and mother of one, who lives in nearby Porthmadog, was visiting her parents when she received a ticket.

‘I feel strongly about the parking ticket being issued in English because our first language is Welsh,’ she said.

‘It’s what I speak at home. It’s not fair that they have issued the ticket in English.

‘We are a Welsh-speaking community and it should be bilingual in line with council policies.’

Miss Jones and her father, who works for Gwynedd council and who also received a ticket in English, made a request to have the tickets in Welsh but the company declined.

They say they won’t pay until they get a notice in their native language.

Miss Jones added: ‘I went to my mum and dad’s for some comfort as I had just been to Ysbyty Gwynedd and was told that my son needed treatment in Alder Hey Hospital.

‘I then found out I’d been issued with a ticket which was only English. All the signs in the car park are in English too.

The building and car park are owned by the community council, but the committee which runs the hall has employed London-based company Flashpark to enforce parking fines.

Miss Jones said that residents had in the past offered to pay the community council to use the car park, and move their cars when the hall was in use, but the offer was turned down.

The Joneses say they are happy to pay fines – if they are given a ticket in Welsh, not English (file image)

Nefina Parri, speaking for the Memorial Hall committee, said they had been discussing how to tackle the issue of parking for at least six years.

She said: ‘I sympathise with the residents as they have difficulty parking by their properties, but the car park is primarily for people who are using the hall.’

She said it wasn’t practical for the residents to pay to park there as there are only around 18 parking spaces and the hall is used seven days a week.

She said: ‘Residents had bilingual warnings on their cars about the parking enforcement which has been in force for about two years.

‘We would have loved to employ a Welsh company, but haven’t found one yet. There were Welsh warning signs around the car park but they were vandalised.’

Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd councillor for Penrhyndeudraeth said: ‘It is unacceptable to issue a document like this that is not bilingual.’

A spokesman for Flashpark said: ‘We don’t currently issue tickets in Welsh as we don’t have a great deal of customers in Wales.

‘We will need to seek advice in this case and if we discover that we do need to issue the ticket in Welsh, then we have the powers to quash the ticket.’

Any OFFICIAL NATIONAL language was enforced when taken over by the people who OCCUPIED with force the native people of the land, Scots, Irish and Welsh.

The Angles were nomadic barbarians without even a native faith IMHO as the religion they adopted AFTER subjugation of the diverse people listed above, Xianity came from Aramea (Northwestern Iran and Syria – thats even further than South East Europe and the Balkans) and was adopted (perhaps stolen?) and used to make war on another far too similar franchise – Islam (which Jibril – Archangel Gabriel spoke to Prophet Mohammad PBUH and started Islam a whole 600 years after Xianity’s Jesus DIED !  Look back even further and you find Judaism predates Xianity and that the Egyptian Amon-Ra worship gave rise to Judaism itself ! That of course is in the Middle East rather than the Atlantic Isles.

In the case of the people of the North Atlantic Isles who were not Xians (Druids, Viking Pantheists etc..). These entirely different races had a language and faith retained in fullest form –

Irish/Gaulish Celtic faith centered around the pantheon of the Tuatha de Danann and the Immortal race of the Sidhe-Danu etc.. –
Welsh Mabinogion and the Bardic tradition (Red Book of Hergest” and ‘The White Book of Rhydderch – NOT the Bible of Aramea), the shapeshifting Tylwyth Teg
Scottish Druidic Oral Tradition (the chants could be formalised into  Holy Book of sorts), the most famours Druid being Merlin of course . . .

There are too few Welsh who do know the value of ethnic and cultural and spiritual identity. Any decent person should feel pleased for Dai and so many of the comments are full of Anglo-chauvinistic sentiment that England has even less right that what it had presumed to place itself and it’s language over the Scots, and Irish also Welsh as well. Let the Triple Crown of Scots, Irish and Welsh take back what centuries of subjugation by Angles had taken from them – starting with coincil and government material INCLUDING and ESPECIALLY fines and tickets is the very least to ask for. The Welsh were living in the North Atlantic Isle long before there were any English or before English was spoken at all.

Plane Left Gate With Gun on Board, DFW Airport Says Updated: Thursday, 19 Jan 2012, 3:27 PM CST Published : Wednesday, 18 Jan 2012, 11:23 AM CST By Alice Wolke | MYFOXDFW.COM

In Democracy, Invasive Laws, social freedoms on January 23, 2012 at 12:54 pm

GRAPEVINE, Texas – A plane left the gate at DFW Airport with a gun on board before transportation officials alerted the pilot about the problem, FOX 4 has learned.

Airport spokesman David Magana said a 65-year-old woman from Little Elm, Texas had a gun in her carry-on bag that got through the security checkpoint . By the time the woman took her bag and walked away, a TSA agent scanning the D-30 checkpoint noticed the .38-caliber handgun. Magana said the TSA shut down only the security checkpoint, not the entire terminal, and began searching the D concourse and other terminals for the woman.

At least 90 minutes elapsed before she was in custody, Magana said. The plane, American Airlines flight 2385 to Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, returned to the gate before it got on the runway. It’s not clear if the gun in the luggage was loaded. The woman, identified as Judith P. Kenny, told police she had forgotten the gun was in her bag. She was arrested on weapons charges and released a few hours later.

TSA spokesman Luis Casanova told FOX 4 that no review of procedures was needed and that standard operating procedures were followed. No harm came to anyone, he said. But airport passengers were clearly concerned and puzzled.

“It is amazing for the liquids they remove and the scrutiny they put you through. For something as blatant as a pistol to get through is unacceptable,” one passenger said.

“You got toothpaste or anything they will stop you real quick, but a gun? They got to figure something out,” another passenger said.

The security breach comes on the same day that the Homeland Security Department acknowledged that some TSA agents went too far by strip-searching two elderly women in New York.

[[[ *** RESPONSE *** ]]]

They should allow a ‘Safe Passenger’s Registry (SPR)’ where local enforcement determines if the would be passenger gets to bring toothpaste of breastmilk or food or even pets, as they wish. This has made travelling by air distressing and unpleasant. American citizens of any wealth or self pride as Americans (land of the free meme etc.) should set up their own airstrips and airfields to circumvent TSA as well as vote for Governors and Congressmen that will remove the TSA entirely to replace with SPR type methods. Those on the SPR registry could bring whatever they want. Those not on SPR registry should clear themselves or prepare to go through regular checks. SPR could have several levels, like :

Code Red (1) criminal record related to potential for terrorism (not unrelated)

Code Orange (2) no checks

Code Yellow  (3) asset declared
1 week notice/worth of background checks

Code Green (4) relative and acquaintance asset declared
1 mth notice/worth of background checks

Code Blue (5) full home visits to ensure non-association with criminal elements
3 mths notice/worth of background checks

; ALL checks CONSENSUAL AND AT INVITATION by the citizen of course. This will save time and allow those who allowed themselves to be pre-checked (probably at intervals) to save time and aggravation. The Blue Coded passenger could walk through with pets or any amount of baggage (without fear they will smuggle terrorism related things INSIDE animals etc..), with others subject to more checks.

Former Tower of London Beefeater thrown out of pub ‘for speaking German to his daughter’ – Incident reported as a race hate crime to police – by Emily Allen – Last updated at 3:47 PM on 20th January 2012

In England, Justice, Law on January 23, 2012 at 12:46 pm

An ex-Beefeater who guarded the Tower of London and served in the army was allegedly thrown out of his local pub – for speaking in German.

Tom Sharp, 71, from Northborough, in Peterborough, says he was talking to his half-German daughter Nichole Falconer, 49, in the Packhorse pub when a few German words crept into the conversation.

But he claims the landlady took exception to the language being uttered in her pub and apparently barred Mr Sharp from the village watering hole.

Outraged: Tom Sharp was thrown out of his local pub for talking in German to his half-German daughter Nichole Falconer, both pictured outside the Packhorse pub

Other drinkers in the pub were outraged by her comments and claim they were thrown out as well.

The alleged incident on Wednesday evening has sparked fury among locals and has been reported as a race hate crime to police.

Former parish councillor Mr Sharp said: ‘I honestly couldn’t believe she was telling us we couldn’t speak German.

‘It’s not as if we were always speaking German and being rude.

‘I could understand if it was all the time and looking at her as if we were plotting, but we weren’t.

‘I think it is a sad reflection of her attitude to life that she can be upset about speaking a language she can’t understand.’

Mr Sharp met and married his wife Anni in Germany when serving with the Army before moving back to the UK when Nichole was 14.

After retiring as Chief Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London, he moved to Northborough, where he is well known after sitting on the parish council.

He was a regular at the pub, going there every day at 4pm.

It was filled with his paintings, some of the building, others of wildlife which he donated to add some atmosphere.

But on Wednesday evening, when he says he was told to get out, the pictures and brass decorations were thrust back at him.

The incident began when the landlady was speaking to Lee Johnston, a friend of Nichole’s who ran the Packhorse last year.

He claimed the landlady told him that the pair had to speak English while in her pub.

Mr Johnston told Nichole and she challenged the landlady before calling the police to report a race hate crime.

She said: ‘It’s just not acceptable. She said that I am white and in England and must speak English.

‘I have no idea of motivation but it was very offensive and caused a great deal of distress.’

Nichole phoned the police and was told to wait at the scene, as was everyone else in the pub, but they claim the landlady ordered them all out and they were forced to wait in the cold.

Another witness, who did not want to be named, said: ‘It’s disgraceful. Everyone in the pub was horrified. We all left and I don’t think many people will be going back.’

While the pub is owned by Scottish and Newcastle, it is managed by LT Pub Management. Nobody was available for comment. The landlady also did not wish to comment when approached by reporters.

A police spokesman said: ‘We were called to reports of an alleged prejudice incident at the Packhorse Pub Northborough at 7.20pm. Officers attended and spoke to both parties.’

Here’s what other readers have said. Why not add your thoughts, or debate this issue live on our message boards.

The comments below have been moderated in advance.

I actually know the pub in question (very well), having lived 18 years in the village next door. To be quite honest, it doesn’t surprise me. It’s always been a bit of a strange place.

It would be nice if when in England speak English applied, but it does not. If the boot were on the other foot, while travelling abroad I would be really sunk if I had to speak French in France (OK, but it’s school-girl standard and I can only just get by), and just hopeless if I had to speak any other European language. By the same token – and closer to home; as a guide in Shropshire I once took a group of WI Welsh speakers around a site. On hearing them speak among themselves, I smiled and said the only word I knew in Welsh was Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwerndrobwyllllantisiliogogogoch [[[ *** You there stop being racist y’hear? Where’s the PC police when you need them? *** ]]], and I hoped they woudn’t mind if I conducted the tour in English. Whereupon they laughed, and spoke among each other in English. It’s not what you say, it’s the way you say it. This landlady has done her business irreperable damage, and should be replaced by the brewery before she damages their reputation as well. Well done to the locals for taking a stand against her intolerance.

Who can fathom the ways of landlords / ladies I once got thrown out of a pub in Guildford for wearing a suit – and it wasn’t my birthday suit. It was a Harry Fenton one (showing my age) so maybe I was asking for it.

Don’t bother calling the police in this country – it’s always the victims who get done for everything. Also, there are so many foreigners here, i don’t know a place in england where english is spoken!!!

Here in the United States any business worth it’s salt and conscious of integrity and equality of all races would A) Fire her (relieve her of her position) and B) Disassociate themselves from her and C) Issue a public apology. I hope everyone pickets that pub and calls the local television station to gain further negative publicity. She is despicable.

Interesting. The Queen Elizabeth SCG ‘Windsor’ is half German btw, Harry and Willian one quarter German. Though I haven’t heard QEII speak German yet, would the Palace Guard throw QEII out of the Palace if she did? Any Hanover’s interested in a ‘Bloodline-Genetic Purity Inquiry Commission?

India Joins Asian Dollar Exclusion Zone, Will Transact With Iran In Rupees by Tyler Durden on 01/21/2012 00:07 -0500

In social freedoms, Wealth distribution on January 23, 2012 at 12:37 pm

Two weeks ago we wrote a post that should have made it all too clear that while the US and Europe continue to pretend that all is well, and they are, somehow, solvent, Asia has been smelling the coffee. To wit: “For anyone wondering how the abandonment of the dollar reserve status would look like we have a Hollow Men reference: not with a bang, but a whimper… Or in this case a whole series of bilateral agreements that quietly seeks to remove the US currency as an intermediate. Such as these: “World’s Second (China) And Third Largest (Japan) Economies To Bypass Dollar, Engage In Direct Currency Trade”, “China, Russia Drop Dollar In Bilateral Trade”, “China And Iran To Bypass Dollar, Plan Oil Barter System”, “India and Japan sign new $15bn currency swap agreement”, and now this: “Iran, Russia Replace Dollar With Rial, Ruble in Trade, Fars Says.”” Today we add the latest country to join the Asian dollar exclusion zone: “India and Iran have agreed to settle some of their $12 billion annual oil trade in rupees, a government source said on Friday, resorting to the restricted currency after more than a year of payment problems in the face of fresh, tougher U.S. sanctions.” To summarize: Japan, China, Russia, India and Iran: the countries which together account for the bulk of the world’s productivity and combined are among the biggest explorers and producers of energy. And now they all have partial bilateral arrangements, and all of which will very likely expand their bilateral arrangements to multilateral, courtesy of Obama’s foreign relations stance which by pushing the countries into a corner has forced them to find alternative, USD-exclusive, arrangements. But yes, aside from all of the above, the dollar still is the reserve currency… if only in which to make calculations of how many imaginary money one pays in exchange for imaginary ‘developed world’ collateral.

On India’s induction into the dollar unluck club, from Reuters.

An Indian delegation has been in Tehran this week discussing options for payment and the source said the decision to pay in rupees was made after a meeting there.

“The Central Bank of Iran will open an account with an Indian bank for receiving payment and settling its import,” the source, who has direct knowledge of the matter, said, adding the new system will start “soon”.

The source did not specify the name of the Indian bank. But other sources have said that Iran could open an account with India’s UCO Bank as it does not have any interests in the United States.

Who’s this India country anyway?

India, the world’s fourth-largest oil consumer, relies on Iran for about 12 percent of its imports or 350,000-400,000 barrels per day (bpd) and is Tehran’s second-biggest oil client after China. But Washington has snapped tighter financial sanctions on Iran and wants Asia, Tehran’s biggest oil market, to cut imports in a bid to pressure the Islamic nation to rein in its nuclear ambitions, which it suspects are aimed at making weapons.

And, oh yes, we forgot Turkey -the (lately very pissed off) gateway to Europe.

Turkey and Iran said on Thursday they want to increase financial transfers and that work is underway to strengthen banking ties.

When the dollar fails, and currency are devalued, barter begins:

India Trade Secretary Rahul Khullar said this week that the Indian delegation to Iran would work around the U.S. sanctions to protect oil supplies and promote Indian exports.
The government source said Iran has agreed to step up imports from India which added up to some $2.7 billion in 2010/11 and including oilmeal, rice and tea.

“This will cushion them (Iran) to some extent from exchange rate volatility,” the source said.

Ironically, and as has been stated here many times before, by enacting the proposed sanctions and embargo, the US, but mostly Europe is doing nothing but shooting itself in the foot, as it opens up a brand new pathway of not only outright defiance, and thus political brownie points domestically for the likes of China, of the US, but it will allow the “Asian dollar exclusion zone” to buy even more crude, at cheaper prices, while in the process it is forced to build closer monetary relations with its neighboring countries, relations that rely less and less on the world’s increasingly less relevant reserve currency.

Asian support for U.S. sanctions is vital since the region buys more than half of Iran’s daily crude exports. The European Union has agreed in principle to halting Iranian crude imports and could finalise the ban on Jan. 23.

China, Iran’s biggest crude customer, has rejected the U.S. sanctions as overstepping the mark and defended its extensive imports from the second-biggest oil producer in OPEC.

Necessity may be the mother of all dollar-exclusive invention, but Obama is surely the father of necessity.

[[[ *** RESPONSE *** ]]]

How about ending fiat altogether and switching to barter? Any country using fiat could become a USA as well if it becomes too influencial. Is any country transparent about what it prints? Information transparency to a nations own citizens much less foreign governments and international agencies without any authority to do audits that would just as likely collude or be bribed are already difficult enough? Why not put an end to something that cannot be controlled like fiat? Any honest country with an honest government would concur. Switch to a gold standard or to do it cheaply, use barter and ‘work hour credits’.

Defending the Last Free Place on Earth (Skewed Article) by Jeff Berwick – The Dollar Vigilante – late February 2012

In Uncategorized on January 23, 2012 at 12:29 pm

Today was the day the internet went semi-dark.

Sites like Reddit, Wikipedia and thousands of others went dark in protest of the latest attempt at a violent terrorist attack on the internet, the so-called Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). Here at The Dollar Vigilante (TDV) we didn’t go dark. We figure we’d be one of the first sites taken offline if/when SOPA is enacted so why give them what they want.

And what is it they want? They want to heavily regulate the internet and have the power to shut down any website. It’s a cyberwar going on, says Joseph Lieberman in this interview. Well, yes, there is a war, but it was one started by the US Government. Surprise, surprise.

But was there a cyberwar before valiant Joseph Lierberman rode up on the scene? Has anyone been shot? Did your laptop explode in your hands? What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to you on the internet? Spam?

How many wars go on in the minds of these people? A harmless plant, marijuana, somehow in their world evolves into a brutal War on Drugs that kills hundreds of thousands per year. An emotion… terror… somehow turns into a War on Terror that has killed over a million people and resulted in a massive loss of freedom and liberty in the US, including the cancellation of the Bill of Rights. And now, the internet… the thing you are on right now… peacefully, without problem, they consider to be an ongoing Cyberwar and try to proclaim the GOVERNMENT needs to protect us from it!

If there EVER were some serious problem on the internet there will be one group of people and one group of people only who will deal with it and be able to deal with it: the internet community of programmers… they number in the millions. They already found a way to hack around Wikipedia going dark for 24 hours.

ANARCHY REIGNS ON THE INTERNET

The internet is the most perfect example of an anarchic environment. In some ways it is like America 300 years ago… a new frontier, initially free. The internet is, for the most part, completely uncontrolled and unregulated since it was invented by Al Gore. It has only been in recent years that the grey hairs of congress have even figured out what it is and have begun to try to “protect us” by making it worse.

Many socialists and Keynesians scratch their head at why the internet/tech business is one of the only businesses to still be thriving in the US. Silicon Valley is still teeming with life. And even though the US Government tries to keep out the world’s best and brightest, they still find ways around it. In this one case, they are considering building a tech incubator community off the shores of California.

The reason the internet/tech business still creates wealth and jobs is precisely because the governments of the world still haven’t figured out how to suck the blood out of them like they have in nearly every other industry through endless legislation, rules and regulations. Of course it is no wonder that some of the most succesful of the internet world, Peter Thiel, Steve Jobs and Jimmy Wales are commited Libertarians – they understand the enemy they are up against.

SHAMELESS FASCIST PANDERING

And, par for the course, in the US, this legislation only exists thanks to the fascist “lobby” interests. Established companies lobby the government to enact all sorts of legislation to protect their business interests… and that is exactly how SOPA came into being. After envelopes stuffed with cash from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) found their ways into the pockets of people like Leibermann.

Using the old, “I know you are but what am I” tact, the MPAA had the gall to state recently that by going dark to protest the attack on their businesses, sites like Wikipedia were “abusing their power”.

Note to the MPAA: Wikipedia and others are USING their power. The MPAA and the US Government are ABUSING their power by attempting to force people at gunpoint (laws/jails) to adhere to what you want them to do.

Big difference, MPAA.

Not to mention it was people like the MPAA who did everything they could to outlaw VHS tapes… and later DVD players because they had the nearsightedness to not realize these would become billion dollar moneymakers for them. And the same is happening now.

Apple iTunes, including iBook store and AppStore, is expected to grow at a rate of about 39 percent over the next 3 years and may contribute about $13 billion in revenues in fiscal 2013, according to an analyst at Global Equities Research.

This is a huge new market for the likes of the MPAA… yet they are doing everything they can to kill it using violence and coercion. In a way it is a small microcosm of democracy… the people who participate in democracy inevitably enact rules and laws that seal their own fate.

SELF POLICING

But, doesn’t the government need to protect creators of intellectual property? Here at TDV we are a provider of IP (our newsletter is 100% IP) and we don’t look to the government to ‘protect us’. We believe in the power of the free market to regulate itself through things like

http://creativecommons.org/.

Many people ask us, what would happen if someone started a website and copied all our material and claimed it as their own? The answer is simple. Everyone would call them thieves and they would be known as charlatans and would lose respect amongst their peers. It’s that simple.

CENSORING AND KILLING THE INTERNET

The real reason the government wants to censor the internet and talk incessantly about the need for an internet kill switch is for the same reason Egypt had an

internet kill switch… and China has the “great firewall”… because they know 2012 will be the year of massive protests, riots and turmoil in response to the US being

sold out from underneath the people and they know that the people will organize themselves via the internet.

HOLD ON TO THIS FREEDOM

Like the founding of America, we’ve yet again been given another chance to flourish. These chances only seem to come along very rarely. Before the founding of America, the last time there was an attempt at escape from the control of the state was nearly two thousand years ago with Jesus the anarchist.

And, for thousands of years, many people have been awaiting a return of “the savior”. The savior could be the internet. Jesus, in many ways, was the top anarchist of his time, fighting against the depredations of the state for freedom.

Fight against any and all government control of this space. This space doesn’t even exist physically. It exists virtually, but it is just as important as any locale in terms of your ability to access information and to make free your mind.

You’ve been able to access information you never thought even existed thanks to the internet. I know I have. And the governments of the world don’t like this. Fight to retain this ability. If we lose this, all is lost.

Sadly, the internet is the last free place on Earth. We have to go virtual to escape government oppression at this point. And if we lose this, there is no hope for humanity. If we retain it, the future will be full of prosperity and peace unlike any we’ve ever known. If we lose it? We don’t even want to think about it.

Freedom ended? No. Only Internet free now? Jeff is joking. And internet is not IRL so it’s not on Earth. Don’t you go down the fear mongering, demogoguery, self fulfilling prophecy road Jeff. Internet is not REAL. Real Physical world is real.

And we can find freedom throughout the world IRL (in real life) though in parts and portions in various countries.

Combine the following found everywhere :

1) Legal RLDs (red ligt districts, or adult services districts – strip poker!)

2) Gambling zones or licensed gambling outlets.

3) Organic Drugs Legal Zones.

4) 2nd Amendment – Tribal Areas that allow children to responsibly carry both hand and projectile weapons. See that child with a bazooka? No issue, he’s not shooting at anyone.

5) Places that have airports that allow people to carry fruits, pets and livestock on planes and trains. Terrorists please target the 1% or givernment bureaucrats, leave the ordinary 99% travellers and passengers alone, you’re giving them the excuse to TSA and Orwellise everything.

6) Places that have no abusive/controlling by-laws on your own paid for property or vehicles. Places with Allodial Titles and that abolished Eminent Domain powers.

7) Places that allow camping and setting up of homes where no incursions into private property in the way of demands for council ‘approval’ (it’s your property who the hell do you need permission from or to pay fees to before building what you want? ditch the laws that require this rubbish!) occur.

These REAL LIFE places of freedom are scattered about in various countries and should be re-established all over the world wherever needed. SO freedom has not ended, though it is being eroded and must be fought for and erosion pushed back. And internet is a flase flag for people who cannot tell the difference between real life and internet. Please Jeff, you’re confusing those with weak minds, not intrentionally I hope (in which case Jeff is throwing a straw man at the voters on behalf of the hegemonists)? If the REAL WORLD is free, we won’t need internet at all. So please focus on running for election as a candidate instead of bothering about the internet. It’s not real. REAL laws which kill freedom however, need all of us, the future politician to change, and to prevent oppressive minded politicians from taking power. Run for election and stop obsessing about the internet.

When real laws protect freedoms, internet will no longer be needed as we will be too busy enjoying freedoms in the real world to be bothered about online faux-lives. What basis can a candidate run on? Try the above numbered list for a start, get your fellow free minded citizens to legislate in your own countries. The last free place? No. We must be in the process of freeing ALL places in the REAL WORLD. Like Occupying ALL streets.
